TODDLER CHILD CARE PROGRAM | 18 MONTHS TO 3 YEARS | Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

MONTESSORI TODDLER CHILD CARE PROGRAM

Montessori is based on the principle of free choice and purposeful activity or “Freedom within limits”.The classroom is set up with five main areas of interest: Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language and Cultural and children are allowed to freely choose activities within the classroom. All of the activities have built in control of error parameters so that the child can understand why the material may not be working. All of the activities focus on: Order, Concentration, Co-operation and Independence. We also work with our parents to potty train their child at this level!

A toddler class begins the educational learning process during the ages of 18 months to 3 years. Our toddler ratio is 1:6 for children aged 18 months to 3 years old.

ENCOURAGING INDEPENDENCE

Many of the activities in the toddler program highlight the self-help skills that lead to independence.  We focus on skills like learning to dress ourselves, cleaning up after ourselves and making new friends!

"PRACTICAL LIFE" AREA FOR PRACTICING MOTOR CONTROL

Our Montessori Toddler Room has a Practical Life Area where children acquire the sense of order and concentration to perform everyday tasks that help them achieve one of the greatest goals for toddlers: INDEPENDENCE!

Children are expected to hang up their own coats, put away their shoes, and to problem-solve on their own.

WHAT PARENTS ARE ASKING

We do extensive Criminal Reference checks and Background checks on all of our team members.

Our program is 5 days per week, Monday – Friday. Recognizing the community’s need for extended hours, we are open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Our Preschool program runs as follows:

Infant: 6 weeks-18 months

Toddler: 18 months-3 years

Primary: 3 years – Kindergarten (Child must be potty trained)

School Day: 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Full Time: 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

This is a fair question, and it deserves careful consideration. The following article, Why Montessori for the Kindergarten Year, written by Tim Seldin with Dr. Elizabeth Coe offers an excellent answer.

The Montessori teacher (commonly known as a Directress) carefully plans and prepares the environment in the interest of the children. She facilitates the classroom activity and helps guide the children in a progression from one activity to the next. She is trained to work with each child individually, allowing the child to choose from many activities within their range of ability. She observes while the children are working and allows them the satisfaction of their own discovery.

Montessori is based on the principle of free choice of purposeful activity. If a child is being destructive or is using materials in an aimless way, the teacher will intervene and gently re-direct the child either to more appropriate materials or to a more appropriate use of the material.

WHAT PARENTS HAVE TO SAY

Both of my children have had the good fortune of being in Miss Jackie's classroom at Child's World, and our family has benefited immeasurably from the clear, consistent, caring guidance that Miss Jackie and her staff provide --- not only to the children, but to us parents as well! Without their Montessori-informed guidance, we would never have known how much our young children are capable of doing. I am deeply grateful to the staff at Child's World for sharing their love, respect, and knowledge with our family. Thank you!

As parents who both work full-time, the time with our twins is limited on weekdays. We truly believe that their involvement in Montessori, with the instruction of Lead Teacher Miss Lindsay (Toddler Classroom), has made our time together that much better. They are able to better communicate and enjoy their experiences – whether that is “finding work” at home, meals, and other activities. Miss Lindsay has created an environment in her classroom where our children feel safe and enjoy learning. We couldn’t ask for more.
